The next generation Toyota Prius hybrid

The next generation Toyota Prius hybrid, which will be the fifth in the history of the model, will receive an unusual power plant. The gasoline internal combustion engine will be replaced by an internal combustion engine running on hydrogen.

According to insiders, the setup will be similar to the one tested on the Toyota Corolla prototype. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that it does not have traditional fuel cells, and hydrogen is used as a product for combustion. The manufacturer claims that the unit emits almost no CO2. It emits only a small amount of NOx (nitrogen oxide). The hydrogen-powered Toyota Prius will debut in 2025 as the system is still being tested and will take at least three years to run in. The experimental model is known to use a 1.6-liter engine that is adapted to run on compressed hydrogen. It changed the fuel injection and supply system. The hydrogen storage tanks are borrowed from the Toyota Mirai.
